Today there are so many crafts for kids that are loads of fun and terrific if you have the time and ability. But this old fashion pinwheel craft is fairly easy and still offers challenges. Small motor skills are used in cutting and drawing as well as turning a square into a 4 pointed 3 dimensional triangle proved challenging for some. Seeing shapes transform and move really is a great way of learning through doing.

It doesn’t get any easier to set up this craft.

Supplies

1. 1 Box of pencils
2. Assorted mylar plastic squares
3. Markers
4. Scissors
5.         Tape or small pins or thumb-tacks

Instructions:

1. Cut 4×4 inch squares out of your mylar sheets. (we used fancy office folders)
2. If plain, add some color with your own designs with a permanent marker.
3. Mark the center of the square with a dot.
4. With a pencil mark diagonal lines for the 4 corners of the square up to a 1/2 an inch to the center dot.
5. Cut along the lines.
6. Pin the center of the square with a small thumb-tack or piece of tape.
7. Take one corner and bring it to the center. Secure onto the thumb-tack or tape.
8. Repeat with the remaining corners

Notes:

So amazingly easy but you will find challenges with younger kids. A more permanent pinwheel could be made with a wooden dowel and a nail but these are perfect as is.
