It’s summer and there is that tendency to get hot. One easy craft that makes the heat more tolerant are these chill-out sponge necklaces. Great for kids of all ages to make and super easy. Not to mention that they look amazingly cool and colorful. Sometimes using your hands and developing new skills can be frustrating and challenging to figure out. This project introduces scissor skills, sewing techniques, pattern and color design without even knowing it because they are just fun and easy to make. Oh did I mention dogs love them too!
Chill-out Sponge Necklaces
3 Necklaces
Materials
1-Package colored sponges
Wooden or metal skewer
24 inch Piece of twine or yarn
Plastic or metal needles
Instructions
Cut your sponges into 1 inch squares, circles or triangle shapes.
Thread onto a wooden or metal skewer to determine the pattern you want and to make a hole for easy threading.
Cut the desired length of twine. Small for a bracelet, ankle bracelet or dog collar and a bit larger for a necklace.
Thread the sponges onto the twine. Secure with a bow or a knot.
Wet the sponges and then freeze. When frozen they are ready to wear.
Notes
Substitute natural sponges or painted designs on them even beads in between for another fun look. A more permanent clasp could be added by threading with jewelry thread and adding a hook and eye fastener.
